It was a nice week off and a low-key weekend. This post just adds to my prior entry, a bit off-the-cuff and spur of the moment.
It was nice being able not to get up at 4:30am and rush around to get to work. It was also nice for my body aches not to get worse as the day goes on in the warehouse. Standing at the kitchen window one morning I was greeted by the resident pair of house finches that are so chipper and social. They nest nearby and use the flower bush outside the window to roost, and their babies will follow suit like they do every season. They often sit on the branches watching me in the kitchen.

It wasn’t all stress free during our time off. Because we rent in an old unkept house, things tend to go wrong and sometimes in a big way. This day we all spent trying to get our toilet to work. Nobody had caused it to not flush, it just stopped on its own without notice. In the end the task was left for me to get it working again. The pipes running to our bathroom and throughout the building are more than likely as old as myself if not more. Nothing in this place was ever upgraded but the windows, and an occasional appliance, we also have no insulation. I plunged, I used a long metal pipe snake, I tried bleach, and then my husband ran out to buy drain cleaner.
I even thought about taking a sledge hammer to it. “Good lord we need to find a house to buy and soon” I complained in exasperation. It was an all day project much to the dislike of anyone needing the bathroom. It finally decided to work in the end. When the prior retro (yes retro) one was removed years ago and replaced I remember the pipe under it was too small for a commode pipe. I’ve owned a home once prior decades ago and watched it being constructed, those pipes I had installed in my house were the standard and much bigger.

Switching channels, for whatever reason my husband recently voiced to me that he hasn’t been wild about meat the last few months, maybe like myself it bothers his stomach, a new found gastro "thing" we are both encountering with age. Whatever his reason I mainly cooked vegetarian meals off and on through the week. We take vitamins and calcium as directed by the family doctor. Meat is an important protein source, I need to be mindful of that so I have been pouring through my cookbooks. I love switching up our healthy eating and creating new dishes.

Once a year the company we work for offers up their stock cheap to employees. It’s mainly shoes, belts, outerwear, and bags. On Wednesday we made the most of both the private employee sale and a day of nicer weather. We aren’t shoppers so we stuck to useful items for ourselves and son, who couldn’t attend. It’s my first time at the employee sale and it was comical to see some of the stuff people were buying. Many of the employees have large families and were leaving with large trash bags full. We just stuck to basics.

The following days the rain returned again. I don’t mind rain and it’s good for the gardens but over a week of it prior was too much. My mental health runs on sunshine. Does yours? My mood had started to tank so it was nice to get one day of sunlight, hopefully it will rain less next month. Memorial Day weekend is coming up and with it everything seasonal opens, bringing the tourists with it. Our tiny town is already crowded due to a large college academy and traffic through it crawls all year. We have a camp on a lake booked in July, and I cannot wait to get away. In our 25 years together we have only had 2 vacations.

Tomorrow is our return to work. Who loves Mondays?, not me. Monday for me is like reprogramming my computer but it’s my body and mind. At my age I am easily forgetful and will spend tomorrow remembering what the heck I did at work the weeks before. The icing on the cake of this new week is we all are working longer shifts. The schedule is a 9 hour day which really doesn’t phase me much. We always get to work an hour before shift anyhow. Nobody should have to work past 65 but this is America and this is how it is sadly.

That’s pretty much the week. I have home projects I have had to set aside I want to catch up to. I also have this blog on my mind and am starting to rethink what platform can I easily switch to without everything being screwed up. There are many, I have used WordPress twice before and it doesn’t impress me much. I’m not into name brand platforms, I just want features affordable and functioning. My current host is for whatever reason dropping the ball. I’d love more than ever to include an occasional short video in a post but that’s not doable currently. I hope your week wherever you are, whatever you’re doing, is a wonderful one!
