When The Lizards Start Falling, It's Cold
Winter is kicking everyone while down, after my last post we got dumped on by a storm that gifted us 27 inches of new snow.
Everyone I communicate with is suffering cabin fever and tired of being stuck indoors. The snow isn’t so much the problem because you can move it aside, the weeks of frigid temperatures this year are why tempers are flaring. In the grand scheme of things, we New Englanders really can’t complain, this has been a more traditional weather season than years prior.
The weather while still cold is nearing our spring thaw, though it doesn’t look like it. I have already noticed the sun is becoming quite strong when I am outdoors and has started to melt away snow and ice. It was a group effort moving the tiring white "crap" in this round, our friend plowed the long drive and cars out while another helped with shoveling. The last time we had this large of a storm was in 2018. That Bomb Cyclone dumped over 3 foot onto us and our roof partially caved in sending our dining room ceiling falling to the floor. It was traumatic, especially at the coast where whole neighborhoods were flooded by the sea.
Keeping busy has certainly been a challenge. Recently I received a call from my elderly father in south Florida who was telling us the temperature had fallen into the 20’s at night, something very much unheard of and after two days of it his garden had succumbed and died. The other oddity is the reptiles there were found everywhere lying or had fallen to the ground during the cold. Unlike Florida flowers, the snakes and lizards will recover. Luckily most homes there have central air that also provides heating as needed.
Now that the fuss is over regarding the weather, spring fever has seeped into my bones and I am determined to have a good clearing out of everything in our home not used or needed these last few years. Our living space is small for three adults, and the storage is at a minimum. It won’t be long now that we are in February that the tempertures begin to climb. At this moment just the thought of being able to open a few windows to switch out the stale dry indoor air for fresh is motivating.
Are you tired of reading about winter and snow? I'm tired of writing about it.
